By joining our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program you become a member and own a "share" of the year's harvest. CSA "shareholders" pay for their produce before the start of the growing season, which helps the farm with start-up funds to purchase seeds, and supplies. As a member of a CSA, you know get to know your farmer and exactly where and how your food has been grown!
What will I receive as part of my share?
--> Wheelbarrow Farm's CSA members receive a pre-packed basket of freshly harvested and washed vegetables. We aim for 10-11 seasonal items in each basket, which is packed the morning of delivery. Most items have been harvested that very morning, so you are receiving the freshest vegetables possible! We grow over 40 different types of vegetables, so you are guaranteed a wide variety throughout the season. Some baskets will also include fruit such as rhubarb or strawberries.
For 2020, we will also be adding in some bonus items like shiitake mushrooms, grown by our friends at Kendal Hills Farm.
We will also have a limited number of egg shares available for purchase at start of season. Members can add-on a dozen free-range eggs to each basket, $90 for the season. Please note that eggs will not be available as a weekly add-on and must be purchased as a full season share. *Eggs will be sourced from our neighbour at Bee's Universe or from Murray's Farm depending on availability.
Check out photos below to see everything members received in one season.
--> Members will receive an email reminder a few days before each pick up, listing the items they can expect in their basket so they can start meal planning. They will also receive recipes and vegetable storage tips tailored for that week's basket.
How often and how many baskets will I receive in a season?
-->> Vegetables are provided bi-weekly (every other week) from late May until early November. You will receive 13 baskets in a season.
