2025 CSA SHARES

By joining our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program you become a member and own a "share" of the year's harvest. CSA "shareholders" pay for their produce before the start of the growing season, which helps the farm with start-up funds to purchase seeds, and supplies. As a member of a CSA, you know get to know your farmer and exactly where and how your food has been grown!

What will I receive as part of my vegetable share?

--> Wheelbarrow Farm's CSA members receive a pre-packed basket of freshly harvested and washed vegetables. Our season typically starts mid-May and ends at the end of October. Pick up is every other week, with 12 pick ups total.

We provide 10-11 seasonal items in each basket, which is packed the morning of delivery. We grow over 50 different types of vegetables, so you are guaranteed a wide variety throughout the season. Some baskets may include special items like rhubarb, apples or specialty mushrooms (from Windy View Mushroom Farm).

Please note that early spring baskets are typically on the small side with lots of fresh greens, but baskets at peak season of mid to late summer are more bountiful, with more variety. 

If demand is high, or we are looking for a unique item that we don't grow, we occasionally source from our friends at Zephyr Organics or Lunar Rhythm Gardens (both are local, and certified organic). 

-->  Members will receive an email a few days before each pick up, listing the items they can expect in their basket so they can start meal planning.  They will also receive delicious recipes for the items in that basket and vegetable storage tips to keep your produce fresh as long as possible.

Other perks of being a CSA member:

--> Option to skip baskets during the season. This is huge and a favourite feature of our members. If you know you'll be away for a pick up, just email us in advance (a minimum of 2 day notice) and you can request to reschedule your pick up. Find more details about how this works on our FAQ page.

-->  You'll have access to our members only online store where you can purchase additional items from our farm (seasonal vegetables, special limited quantity fruit & vegetables, bulk priced items, flower bouquets and seedlings in the spring) as well as locally produced products (tea, honey, syrup, preserves, eggs when available and more). The store is curated each season with products from small, local businesses. Add-on items are purchased in advance and your order is picked up with your CSA vegetable basket. 

--> Members also have access to our trades bin at each pick up location. Our staff have an extra basket of items so if there is something you don't care for in your basket, you can swap out with something else from the trades bin.

--> Private Facebook group for CSA members! We have an awesome online space for our CSA community to connect, share their favourite recipes and find new ways to prepare and cook unique vegetables,. You'll also receive fun behind the scenes stuff from the farm, contests and much more!

OPTIONAL ADD ONS:

--> For our 2025 CSA season we will be offering a limited number of FRUIT and FLOWER shares. Just like your vegetable share, you sign up and pay in advance.

 Fruit share:

• Pay in advance with your veg share and you are automatically scheduled to have fruit that you pick up at the same time (fruit can be rescheduled if needed, just like veg baskets).
• 7 fruit baskets total over the season (basket #5 through 11, early to mid July until mid Oct).
• Each mixed basket will have two types of high quality, locally grown, seasonal fruits (typically a pint basket size of each type). Some items are from our farm, but most fruit is sourced from Palatine Fruit & Roses in Niagara (biodynamically grown), Prima orchards (non-certified organic) or Lunar Rhythm Gardens (certified organic).
• Fruit types are typically: strawberries, red currants, peaches, plums, nectarines, melon, pears and apples.
• Cost upfront is $80 (less than $11.50 per basket).

Flower share:

• Pay in advance with your veg share and you are automatically scheduled to have flowers that you pick up at the same time (flowers can be rescheduled if needed, just like veg baskets).
• 4 large mixed bouquets total over the season (basket #6 through 9, end of July until mid Sept).
• Each bouquet is freshly cut and will contain a beautiful mix of blooms grown spray-free on our farm. 
• We grow a wide variety of annuals and perennials such as dahlias, starflower, celosia, statice, nigella, poppies, scabrosa, strawflowers, sunflowers, zinnias and many more. 
• Cost upfront is $65 (works out to $16.25 per bouquet, which is 10% cheaper than our market price).

How often and how many baskets will I receive in a season?
--> Vegetables are provided bi-weekly (every other week) from mid-May until end of October. You will receive 12 baskets in our full CSA season.

Where and when do I get my basket?
--> Members pick up their baskets from one of our outdoor, community pick-up locations, or directly from the farm.

1) Direct from the farm gate: Wheelbarrow Farm - 535 Durham Rd 13, Sunderland, ON, L0C 1H0 -Choose Saturday or Thursday pick up (10am-2pm) 

OR

2) Toronto locations:

-Greenwood/Coxwell area: Glen Rhodes United Church (1470 Gerrard St E) -Thursday (3-7pm) 

-Dufferin Grove area: St Anne's Church (270 Gladstone ave) -Tuesday (3-7pm)

-Bloor/Dovercourt area (Hallam St) - Tuesday (4-7pm)

-St Clair W/Christie area (Wellwood Ave) - Tuesday (4-7pm)

How much does it cost?

IMPORTANT! Our CSA program starts week of May 11th. Depending on which location you are picking up from, we may be able to offer a late start and prorate the price. Please register using link below and EMAIL US  before submitting payment to confirm your start date and prorated price.
